Digestion and Gut Health
The Gut Health has been a hot topic in recent years and what was known in many traditional holistic schools and healing methods for ages, is now confirmed by the science:
The gut is your second brain and your health, the immune system, emotions and your wellbeing depends on its proper functioning and the absorption of nutrients.
All wonderful diets, ‘super-foods’ or taking supplements are no use IF your body cannot properly digest it and absorb it. Problems such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), constipation, leaking gut, parasites, bloating, Candida overgrowth, etc, means that the body does not get what it needs to fully function and to be at its best.
There are many methods that Systematic Kinesiology can offer to help with digestion issues and one of the most effective is the ICV treatment.
What is Ileocecal Valve (ICV) and what are its functions?
The Ileocecal Valve is made of two parts: a sphincter muscle and a valve type of structure at the beginning of the Caecum; and has two very important functions:
1) the first function of this valve is to hold the chyme* in the Small Intestine until the absorption has taken place and only when it is completed, the valve should allow section of the chyme to pass to the Large Intestine.
2) the second function of the Ileocecal Valve is to prevent the chyme matter that has passed into Caecum (now becoming faecal matter) from oozing or flowing back into the Small Intestine.
When the Ileocecal Valve is in its normal tone it is closed (but not stuck) and it moves the chyme from the Small Intestine to the Large Intestine at appropriate intervals.
- If the valve is in spasm, it stays open and leaks, allowing toxic matter to re-enter the Small Intestine and the body starts to poison itself slowly;
- If that valve is flaccid, it stays shut and the chyme starts rotting in the Small Intestine by being unable to move to the Large Intestine and then expelled from the body.
Both malfunctions of the Ileocecal Valve make the person, who suffers from this syndrome, poisoned by toxins and unable to fully absorb nutrients needed for a proper functioning of the body and leaves the person depleted and lacking of energy.
*chyme is a mass of partly digested food that leaves the stomach
The Ileocecal Valve Syndrome (ICV): Symptoms
The Ileocecal Valve is located between the end of the Small Intestine (the Ileum) and the beginning of the Ascending Colon (the Caecum). A malfunctioning Ileocecal Valve is a very common condition and can be a source of many unpleasant symptoms such as:
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- Chronic fatigue
- Dehydration
- Digestive disorders
- Nausea
- Food intolerances
- Lethargy
- Headaches
- Migraines
- Joints pain
- Skin problems
- Acne
- Bad breath
- Water retention
- T.A.T.T (Tired All the Time syndrome)
This is not a complete list of symptoms of ICV (Ileocecal Valve) Syndrome but it is only to give an idea of problems that may be caused by the malfunctioning Ileocecal Valve.
